Fanny Crosby

Known as the “Queen of Gospel Hymns,” legendary songwriter Fanny Crosby was born in 1820. At just 6 weeks old, a failed treatment to cure an eye infection blinded her for life but never dimmed her vision for the future. As a child, Fanny memorized over ten books of the Bible and discovered a passion for poetry that shaped her destiny.

Filled with simple, sentimental verses, Fanny wrote over 8,000 hymns during her life, with the goal of reaching over one million souls for Christ through her music. From “To God Be the Glory” to “Rescue the Perishing” to “Blessed Assurance,” many of Fanny’s songs are cherished classics, echoing across the earth in churches every day.

Before her passing at age 94, she penned one of her final hymns with the words, “Before our Father’s throne, when the mists and clouds have flown, we shall know as we are known, some sweet day, by and by.” Standing the test of time, Fanny Crosby’s music is still impacting people around the globe. Words of praise and worship written by a blind woman, who helped the world see Jesus.
